Recent Art Haul

Just wanted to share my most recent art haul.  I'm just crazy about the Gelatos.  I'll be posting the artwork I create with them so you could get an idea of what a finished art piece looks like with each of these products.

Art Tips and Some More Pics

These are more pics of my work in the class with Kelly Kilmer and a sneak peek of my work from another class I'm taking with Juliette Crane.  Since I am a self taught artist, I don't normally take any classes, but I thought these two classes would be fun and they are.  Think about taking a class or two even if you already do similar work.  It can be a lot of fun and it can be very inspirational.   Enjoy!

Sneak peek....more to come....

Here are some tips just in case there are some newbies out there.
  • Take time to be creative every day.  You don't have to actually finish a piece, just do one creative act at a time.  You can gesso some pages, paint some backgrounds, cut some clip art, do a thorough cleaning of some or all of your supplies; or just plan your next project.  I find that organizing and planning for my next project can be fun and it's great to have everything ready for my artwork.  Then I can go with the flow instead of having to stop to look for something.
  • Familiarize yourself with your product inventory.  If you don't know what you have, you won't use it.  I like to take out time every few months to re-familiarize myself with my products and think about new ways of using them, now that I am using new techniques that I probably wasn't using previously.
  • Don't be afraid to challenge yourself.   If you don't stretch yourself you will probably get really good at what you do, but you won't grow as an artist.  You'll be amazed to see how much you've learned in just a few months by stretching yourself.  Remember, it doesn't matter how much experience you have, the first time you try something different, for you it will be new and new can be intimidating, but it won't be new for long.
  • Remember to clean your supplies.  I know some artists don't clean their supplies for various reasons, but if you are on a budget it will pay off in the long run.  Even inexpensive supplies can last longer if you treat them with care.  Also, depending on what kind of art you create a dirty or stiff brush will affect your art piece.
  • Make up a travel art bag with your favorite art goodies.  I will share mine with you in a future blog.
  • Make an inventory journal.  I take mine with me when I go shopping so I don't keep buying products I already own.  If you need any ideas see JennieBellie on YouTube.  She is always brimming with DIY ideas--she's fantastic.

Just Sharing My Art

Happy Monday everyone,

I've posted a few pics of what I've recently been working on in the Kelly Kilmer class.  I'm having a blast.  I've also been experimenting with different  styles of art, so I posted a few of those pics as well.  As usual, I'm working on several projects at a time, so there's more to come of my latest favorite art play....Enjoy!

Here, I'm experimenting with charcoal, colored pencils and acrylic paints.  I really enjoyed it.

Crazy For Washi

Hello my lovelies,

When the big washi tape craze started I didn't find it useful to the kind of art journaling I was doing. However,  I recently started taking a Kelly Kilmer class and have gone nuts buying and making tapes of all types.

I have a little tip for you if you like making fabric tape.  I stabilize the fabric with medical paper tape.  First I make sure the fabric piece is trimmed evenly.  Then I place the tape on the edge of the piece of fabric and then trim it right at the edge of the tape on the inside of the fabric with a pair of sharp scissors or a rotary cutter.  Since the backing is still porous it sticks right onto any paper or fabric really well.  The fabric is stabilized and I saved a bit of cutting time.
